Sam Johnson had a proper name, not Sam and not Johnson but Sam Johnson to avoid any innuendos. In a freak farm accident, we quickly lost our happy dog, who never had a bad day.
Our westie and lab breed, looked more like his westie mom than his black lab dad. His terrier side brought out an incredibly obedient and trainable pooch and his lab side was shown in his unending loyalty.
Sam Johnson came as part of a 26 dog rescue. He was a sickly little pup recovering from distemper, so sick he only ate if given each bite by hand. He has been an ambassador and welcomer to the ranch ever since. Not a day was he cross nor aggressive with the many animals on our ranch. He was so tender, that he could carry one of our chicken eggs around for a week without breaking it. We called it his lucky egg.
He could dance a two-step on demand as well as jump into our arms on command. In our cross country trips he sat above as second in command looking over the road from the nooks and crannies of the truck. On trail rides, he was the caboose as to never be left behind.
His hobbies included: trips to the ocean for clam digging, watching TV perched like a frog, and paddle boarding. He was known to love costumes notably a Corona delivery dog and White Swan. He was even the dog of the day on KING5 News Weather.
Sam Johnson was hoping to live a long life, as he loved fruit and vegetables – especially from someone’s plate, hand fed.
As ranchers and animal rescue professionals, it is easy to say – you were the best dog EVER. Eleven years went way too fast and he was taken too soon.
During the day you were the “Prince and the Pea” spread eagle on our stack of dog beds with pride. At night you were fighting us for our pillows on our bed. We hope that you find a spot between the clouds to find your final rest.
Give GG a sneak attack wet-willy kiss in the ear when you see her, she’ll think it’s a hoot. You and your scruffy coat was one of a kind. Keep guard until we meet again. ❤️
